Dave Dayen and Matt Stoller are joined by Rich Ham, CEO of FineTune, specializing in corporate cost reductions, and strategies large organizations can use to reduce wasteful spending.
Of course. There’s nothing wrong with the public sector that isn’t caused by a private sector. As a long time (30+ years) state and local employee, I can assure you of this. Privatization is nothing but a scam.
Do the gaming industry! The production side is dominated by mega-studios going on merger rampages and delivering expensive, shoddy products. Working conditions are abyssmal, probably the worst for all of software development. Financial failures result in layoffs even after employees worked 100 hour weeks to deliver last minute changes. Day one launches for blockbuster games are terrible: game crashing bugs, multiplayer services that have hours long-queues, game-breaking exploits, etc. If it were any other industry, there'd be constant lawsuits for false advertising. Gamers really really hate the so-called "AAA" studios and the innovative medium-sized, innovative subsidiary studios like Monolith are being closed.
On the distribution side, the Steam store dominates PC game distribution to an unknown extent because the owner Valve is a private company. Estimates are commonly above 50%. It's algorithm makes or breaks games. It's good for the consumer in terms of low prices, but they squash competition with anti-competitive pricing agreements with companies. Console gaming is different in that the hardware manufacturers ultimately control the distribution channel.
No one has done a real economic analysis of the drivers here.
Great interview! DOGE is destroying government agencies to then privatize them and creating more monopolies, this is something that we should all be concerned with. I am mostly concerned with the USPS & public schools & Social Security. Can you imagine private equity in charge of our children’s education, mail or social security?? Yikes!
I’m sick of fighting for Medicare and Medicaid and VA benefits, we need to fight for universal healthcare which will eliminate the need to fight for these basic human rights every year.
I’ve been an advocate for expanding postal service to allow banking again especially in rural communities that it is needed most.

A great interview!
What happens when the vendor and procurement department are part of the same company or are owned by the same parent company?
And have the vendors also been hollowed out in the same way the buy side has?

Please focus on monopoly issues and NOT your political opposition to DOGE.
