This reminds me (I'm about 1/2 way through) of the way executive compensation got ratcheted upwards (for 40 years), because executive search committees had a model for executive compensation based on ... the compensation to other executives. I.e. no study of the labor market for executives or something that ... wouldn't naturally trend upwards.

Uncharacteristically, this interview comes across like gibberish, for the uninitiated.

If one can't explain something to the satisfaction of a 6 year old, one doesn't understand it, oneself.
