Below you can find a YouTube post of the recording for Episode #58, The Shadowy Puppet Masters Who Control College Athletics.
The business of college athletics is a reflection of American society, and it is corrupt. After a century of monopoly profiteering, recent changes in law led to the new NIL era (name, image, likeness), allowing players to enter into contracts personally making them well earned millions for their work.
Other people making money off a monopoly product really upsets the shadowy puppet masters fattened from raking in billions off unpaid labor. So of course they’re fighting back. This week’s guest, Senior Legal Fellow at the American Economic Liberties Project, Katherine Van Dyck, breaks down the history, current affairs, and likely future outcomes of the complex situationship between the NCAA and its vaunted “student athletes.”
